Third-year men's hockey forward Allain Saulnier has been chosen as the Moncton Aigles Bleus' nominee for the 2016 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award.

A business student from Cap-Pelé, N.B., Saulnier led the AUS in assists in the 2015-16 regular season with 28 and finished second overall in points with 36.

He was named an AUS second team all-star. He adds this to a list of accolades which include 2014-15 AUS first team all-star nods and a place on the 2013-14 all-rookie squad.

In addition to his achievements on the ice, Saulnier is also successful in the classroom. He is currently on pace to achieve academic all-Canadian status this season.

His off-ice activities also include an array of community service initiatives. He volunteers his time with the Tour of Hope cancer fundraiser and the CHU Dumont Foundation (which raises funds for the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre). Saulnier also makes regular visits to this hospital to visit children who are receiving care.

His other volunteer activities include participating in a children's literacy program with the Aigles Bleus, helping out at minor hockey practices in the community and serving as a trainer at several youth hockey camps.

"His leadership qualities in the university community, in his hometown and within the team are immeasurable," said Moncton director of athletics Marc Boudreau. "He is a role model for youth and for adults alike. A first year masters student, he knows how to manage his time well between his studies, his hockey and his community involvement."*
