AUS Men's Hockey Weekly Round Up: Week 8

Wednesday, November 25

Saint Mary's 1 at Acadia 3 (Box Score)

The Acadia Axemen hosted the Saint Mary's Huskies in Wolfville on Wednesday night. Acadia's Mike Cazzola was the difference maker for the Axemen, notching two goals on the power play, including the game winner. Saint Mary's captain Stephen MacAulay netted the lone goal for the Huskies. Sam Fioretti sealed the deal for the Axemen with an empty net goal to end the third period.

UPEI 5 at St. Thomas 4 (Box Score)

The UPEI Panthers visited the St. Thomas Tommies in Fredericton on Wednesday evening. In a hard-fought back-and-forth battle, Casey Babineau scored the only goal of the first period for the Panthers. Two short-handed goals from St. Thomas's Bryce Milson and Shane McColgan gave the Tommies a short-lived lead in the second before Nelson Armstrong tied things up. Five goals were scored in a busy third period with UPEI's Marcus Power notching the eventual game winner on the power play at 13:12.

UNB 4 at Moncton 7 (Box Score)

The UNB Varsity Reds visited the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday evening. The Aigles Bleus downed the CIS No. 5-ranked Varsity Reds 7-4. Subway first star of the game Alex Saulnier posted three points in the win (one goal and two assists). Jean-Sebastien Fournier notched the eventual game winner on the power play with two minutes left in the second period.

StFX 4 at Dalhousie 1 (Box Score)

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted the StFX X-Men at the Halifax Forum on Wednesday night. The X-Men downed the Tigers 4-1 with StFX's Zack MacQueen netting the eventual game winner in the second period. Wes Herrett put the Tigers on the board with less than four minutes remaining in the game to make the score 2-1 for StFX. But two empty net goals from the X-Men would ensure their win.

Friday, November 27

Moncton 1 at UNB 4 (Box Score)

The UNB Varsity Reds hosted the Moncton Aigles Bleus in Fredericton on Friday night. After a scoreless first period, the Varsity Reds were the first on the board at 05:10 in the second frame with a goal from Dylan Willick. Just over a minute later, a tally from UNB's Cameron Brace put the Varsity Reds ahead by two, followed by a power play tally from teammate Rob Mignardi to give the Varsity Reds a 3-0 edge heading into the third. At 02:50 into the final frame, Victor Beaulac put the Aigles Bleus on the board, but it would not be enough as a goal from UNB's Francis Beauvillier gave the Varsity Red's a 4-1 victory over the Aigles Bleus.

Dalhousie 1 at Acadia 5 (Box Score)

The Dalhousie Tigers visited the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville on Friday night. The Tigers were the first to the board with a tally from Fabian Walsh at 14:24 in the opening frame. In the second period, a power play goal from Acadia's Geoff Schemitsch tied the game at 1-1 heading into the final period. The Axemen came out flying in the third, with four goals in six minutes. Just 14 seconds into the frame, a tally from Brett Thompson allowed the Axemen to take the lead, followed by a goal from teammate Mike Cazzola just under a minute later. At the 04:41 mark, a tally from Remy Giftopoulos put Acadia ahead by three, followed by teammate Geoff Schemitsch's second power play goal of the night, allowing the Axemen to earn the 5-1 victory at home over the Tigers.

Saturday, November 28

St. Thomas 3 at UPEI 4 (Box Score)

The UPEI Panthers hosted the St. Thomas Tommies in Fredericton on Friday night. The Panthers struck first with a goal at 16:21 in the first from Marcus Power, to hold a 1-0 edge heading into the second. A goal from UPEI's Sam Aulie just over a minute into the second put the Panthers ahead by two, until a goal from Tommies Connor Sanvido cut the Panthers lead to one. At 05:49 in the same frame, a power play goal and his second of the game from UPEI's Marcus Power allowed the Panther's to regain their two goal lead. A power play goal from Tommies Matt MacLeod at the 10:47 mark of the second, followed by a tally from teammate Colin Martin allowed St. Thomas to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the final frame. Just over four minutes into the third, a goal from UPEI's Chad Labelle allowed the Panthers to take the lead, to earn a 4-3 victory over the Tommies. 

 

StFX 2 at Saint Mary's 1 (Box Score)

The StFX X-Men visited the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday night. A power play goal from StFX's Eric Locke at 07:57 in the first allowed the X-Men to take the lead heading into the second. In the second frame, a power play goal from StFX's Kristoff Kontos at the 08:35 mark gave the X-Men a 2-0 lead after two. At 04:10 in the final frame, a power play tally from Saint Mary's Stephen MacAulay put the Huskies within one, but it would not be enough as StFX held on for the 2-1 victory over Saint Mary's.
