AUS Men's Weekend Hockey Roundup: Week 2

Friday, October 16

Dalhousie 1 at UPEI 4 (Boxscore)

In their home-opener in Charlottetown on Friday evening, the UPEI Panthers topped the Dalhousie Tigers 4-1. UPEI centre Mason Wilgosh kicked off the scoring early in the first period to put the Panthers on the board. A second goal from Mason Wilgosh gave the Panthers the 2-0 edge, but was followed by a power play goal from Dalhousie forward Fabian Walsh to put the Tigers on the board. However, it would not be enough as Mason Wilgosh scored his third of the game, earning a hatrick, followed by a tally from teammate Carter Rigby to make it a 4-1 Panthers final.

Moncton 3 at Acadia 4 OT (Boxscore)

The Acadia Axemen opened their stint of home games this weekend against the Moncton Aigles Bleus in Wolfville on Friday. After a scoreless first period, two goals from Axemen fourth-year forward Mike Cazzola and a tally from teammate Dylan Anderson gave Acadia the 3-0 after the second. The third period saw Moncton domination as goals from Aigles Bleus defenceman Victor Beaulac, forward Alex Saulnier, and defenceman Mitchell Robillard tied the game at 3, forcing over time. At 02:12 into over time, a tally from Axemen Kyle Farrell ended the game with Acadia topping Moncton 4-3.

St. Thomas 1 at Saint Mary's 6 (Boxscore)

The Saint Mary's Huskies dominated over the St. Thomas Tommies on Friday night with a 6-1 win. The Huskies opened the scoring with a power play goal from third-year forward Francis Menard in the first period. The second period saw three goals from the Huskies coming from forward Calder Brooks, defenceman Kyle Pereira, and forward Mitchell Maynard. Three minutes into the third period the Tommies made their way onto the board with a tally from JC Campagna. However, it would not be enough as goals from forward Steven Beyers and forward Ben Duffy gave the Huskies the 6-1 win.

StFX 3 at UNB 4 OT (Boxscore)

On Friday night, the UNB Varsity Reds hosted the StFX X-Men, ending in a 4-3 over time win for the Varsity Reds. A late power play goal in the first period from StFX sophomore forward Eric Locke put the X-Men on the board. A goal from UNB forward Francis Beauvillier tied the game at 1, but was followed by a second power play goal from StFX as X-Men forward Blake Gal put StFX up by 1. A goal from Varisty Reds forward Cameron Brace at 17:05 in the second period tied the game at 2 heading into the third. The third period saw goals from StFX's Craig Duininck, and a power play goal for Varsity Reds fourth-year forward Rob Mignardi, tying the game at 3, forcing overtime. At 02:46 into overtime, a power play from Varsity Reds Randy Gazzola ended the game, giving UNB the 4-3 win.

Saturday, October 17

Dalhousie 2 at UNB 3 (Boxscore)

The UNB Varsity Reds looked for their second win of the weekend as they hosted the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night. Dalhousie fourth-year forward Andrew Wigginton opened the scoring for the Tigers in the first period, giving them the 1-0 edge heading into the second. In the second period, goals from Varsity Reds defenceman Jordan Murray, forward Philippe Maillet, and forward Peter Trainor gave UNB the 3-1 lead. A power play goal from Tigers Phil Gadoury was the lone goal of the third, but would not be enough as the Varsity Reds topped the Tigers 3-2.

StFX 3 at UPEI 5 (Boxscore)

On Saturday evening, the StFX X-Men visited the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown for their first meeting of the season. Just 44 seconds into the first period, X-Men forward Steven Kuhn opened the scoring. Kuhn's goal would be followed by Panthers goals from left wing Marcus Power and defence Ryan Mackinnon to give the Panthers the 2-1 edge heading into the second. An early short-handed goal from StFX forward Adam Stevens tied the game at 2 in the second. A power play goal from Panthers centre Sam Aulie, and goal from X-Men forward Michael Clarke tied the game at 3 heading into the third period. In the third, Panthers Sam Aulie netted his second goal of the game, followed by goal from teammate Nick Czinder, allowing the Panthers to take the game 5-3.

Moncton 3 at Saint Mary's 4 (Boxscore)

Looking for their second win of the weekend, the Saint Mary's Huskies faced the Moncton Aigles Bleus at the Halifax Forum on Saturday night. Saint Mary's forward Ben Duffy opened the scoring for the Huskies in the first period with a power play goal. In the second, the Aigles Bleus netted three power play goals from forward Steve Lebel, forward Jean-Francois Plante and defenceman Pierre Durepos. However, a short-handed goal from Huskies Bradley Greene kept the Huskies within 1 heading into the third. The fifth power play goal of the game from Huskies Stephen MacAulay, followed by a tally from teammate Steven Beyers gave the Huskies the 4-3 lead, earning the win over the Aigles Bleus.

St. Thomas 0 at Acadia 4 (Boxscore)

On Saturday night the Acadia Axemen earned for their second win of the weekend as they beat the St. Thomas Tommies 4-0. After a scoreless first period, the Acadia Axemen got themselves on the board in the second period with a goal from sophomore forward Boston Leier. The third period saw goals from Axemen defenceman Dylan Anderson, forward Kyle Farrell, and forward Sam Fioretti. Robert Steeves earned the shutout for the Axemen as they took the game 4-0.
