(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The St. Thomas Tommies dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in AUS men's hockey action, Saturday night at the Grant-Harvey Centre in front of 557 spectators.

Zach MacQueen had two goals and an assist for the X-Men in the win.

Matt MacLeod was the lone goal scorer for the Tommies.

"For all intents and purposes I think we played a really good game," Tommies head coach Pat Powers said. "I think it comes down to us not capitalizing on the opportunities we did have."

The game was scoreless until midway through the second when MacLeod buried a rebound to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived, though, as MacQueen evened the score less than three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

MacQueen netted his second of the game with less than two minutes to go to give the X-Men a 2-1 lead.

The Tommies pulled Teichmann for the extra attacker, but a turnover by Eric Diodati proved costly as Rob Slaney added an empty net insurance marker to give StFX the 3-1 win.

"It's frustrating. We are playing the right way and we just continue to find ways to not win," Powers said. "We had tons of power play opportunities and our power play just couldn't generate anything tonight."

The Tommies are back in action Wednesday when they face the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds at the Aitken University Centre. The X-Men return to the ice Jan. 30, when they host the Tommies in Antigonish.
