Aigles Bleus win 6-4 over the Huskies

(MONCTON, N.B.) - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus got two goals from Subway Player of the Game Alex Emond and were able to down Saint Mary's University Huskies (11-12-0) 6-4  in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game played Friday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in front of almost 1,000 spectators.

The Aigles (15-8-0) were able to retain their third-place spot in the AUS standings.

Steve Lebel (with assists from Alex and Allain Saulnier), Eric Faille (from Simon Jodoin and Danny Chiasson), Luc Williams (from Jean-Marc Léger and Keven Lévesque) and Alex Saulnier (from Alex Emond and Allain Saulnier) had the other Aigles Bleus goals.

Alex Saulnier and Jonathan Connely had assists on Emond's last insurance goal. Alex Saulnier and Allain Saulnier had the helpers on his first.

Goaltender Jonathan Connely made 22 saves, including 10 in the second stanza, to win his sixth game of the season.

The game was well fought by both teams. Michael D'Orazio, Steven Beyers, Cory Tanaka and Ryan Hillier replied for the Huskies. Anthony Peters made 26 saves. The score was 2-2 after one period and Moncton scored three times in the second to take a 5-3 lead.

"We are looking to win six points this week,"  said goaltender Connely. "I did give up a few goals tonight, but I got back in the game and established the momentum for the win. The Huskies had their big players in front of the net tonight and it was not easy, especially during their power-plays."

"We did exchange goals tonight, but I thought we played well," said Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois. "We had a few breakdown moments, we did not dominate the game. We hit three or four posts and Peters had a few great saves. We will have to play better defensively, Saturday."

The Aigles host the StFX X-Men tonight, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. while the Huskies will visit the UNB Varsity Reds in Fredericton at the same time.
