Aigles Bleus win 5-1 over Tigers

(MONCTON, N.B.) - Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (11-7-0) scored three goals in the second period to secure a 5-1 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers, (2-16-1) in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action Friday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, in front of 825 spectators.

The Aigles Bleus saw goals by brothers Allain (from Simon Lacroix) and Alex Saulnier (unassisted) and Rémi Blanchard (from Alex Quesnel on the power-play) in the second period to take a 3-0 lead after a scoreless first period.

Alex Noël (from Maxime Pilon) had the fourth Aigles Bleus goal at 8:55 of the third period and Alex Quesnel (from Eric Faille) made it 5-1 a minute later on a shorthanded goal following a nice passing play between him and Faille.

Chris Evanko prevented Jonathan Connely from getting a shutout with the lone visitor's goal at 6:36 of the third stanza. Connely faced 18 shots against the 30 for Wendell Vye at the opposite end of the ice.

"This is a nice victory, but it took us a while to get going," said Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois. "We played well and we did not let them take many shots. We tried to be too complicated in our plays at first, but we were better in the second with simple plays."

"We played well defensively in the three zones, which resulted in less than 20 shots," Bourgeois added. "Connely was solid and made a few key saves in the first to keep us in the game."

The Aigles Bleus take to the ice again tonight, Saturday, Jan. 18, when they host the AUS top-ranked Acadia Axemen at 7 p.m.

The Tigers will visit the AUS second-place UNB Varsity Reds tonight, also at 7 p.m., in Fredericton.
