Sea-Hawks defeat Varsity Reds to earn series sweep

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the UNB Varsity Reds 63-49 to earn a weekend sweep in AUS women's basketball at the Field House Sunday.

Sea-Hawks point guard Megan Robinson had a game-high 17 points to lead Memorial.

Rookies Chante Clarke and Sydney Stewart gave Memorial coach Doug Partridge a boost off the bench as they score 10 and 12 points respectively. Clarke was named Subway Player of the Game for Memorial.

Laura Kaye led UNB with 12 points in the loss. Katelyn Mangold was the player of the game for the Varsity Reds with eight points and 14 rebounds.

Memorial improved to 5-5 with the pair of weekend wins. The pair of four-point wins in the standings puts the Sea-Hawks in fourth place in the AUS.

UNB have now lost six in a row and have a record of 3-8.

Memorial will travel to Antigonish next weekend for a pair of games against the StFX X-Women.

The Varsity Reds will travel to Charlottetown to visit the UPEI Panthers in their next game this Friday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m.
