Top-ranked Huskies hand Sea-Hawks 81-57 loss

(ST.JOHN'S, N.L.) - The CIS No.1-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies spoiled the Memorial Sea-Hawks home opener on Saturday with a 81-57 victory in AUS women's basketball in St. John's. The Huskies got off to a hot start and didn't cool off until the second half.

Rachelle Coward led the Huskies in the win with 23 points while Justine Colley added 20 points and seven steals. The Huskies finished the first quarter up 26-8.

Sandra Amoah led the Sea-Hawks with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Rookie Sydney Stewart had six points and 10 rebounds off the Memorial bench.

After the Huskies dominated the first half, Memorial cut into the lead with a better second half, outscoring Saint Mary's 43-35 in the final two quarters.

Subway Players of the Game were Coward for Saint Mary's and Katherine Vanden Elzen for Memorial.
