Morley named new head coach for Capers men's soccer

(SYDNEY, N.S.) - It will be a familiar face manning the sidelines for the Cape Breton University Capers men's soccer team this fall with the appointment of former player and assistant coach Dean Morley as the team's new head coach.

Morley takes over the head coaching duties from Robbie Chiasson, who served in the position for 11 years before stepping down last month.

"We are very pleased to be able to bring Dean back to the Capers and are confident in his ability to continue the success of our men's soccer program," said John Ryan, CBU director of athletics. "His lifelong involvement in the sport of soccer gives Dean great perspective on the game and his technical skills will be second to none in the AUS."

An AUS first team all-star during his playing days with the Capers, Morley served as lead assistant with Chiasson for a decade and played an important role in helping those Capers teams capture three AUS titles (2007, 2009, 2012) and CIS bronze (2011) and silver (2012) at the national men's soccer championship.

Currently Sport Nova Scotia's sport development coordinator for Cape Breton, Morley is looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead as he takes over the head coach responsibilities at CBU.

"I'm honoured and excited to accept this new sport leadership role," said Morley, who has a long history of developing the sport of soccer in Cape Breton.

"I've always believed in, and worked for, the development of sport in the community and believe this opportunity will serve as another stepping stone in building partnerships between CBU and the local soccer community."

Morley and the Capers will open the 2014 AUS season at home Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies.
