Defending AUS champion Capers shutout Axemen for first win

(SYDNEY, N.S) - The Cape Breton Capers finally found the win column, posting a 3-0 win over the visiting Acadia Axemen in AUS men's soccer play Sunday in Sydney.

The defending AUS champions, who have struggled offensively through their first three games, finally broke through on Sunday.

Mark Stewart opened the scoring for the home side in the 28th minute and former AUS rookie of the year Ian Greedy added his first of the season just four minutes later to up the score to 2-0, a lead the Capers would take into halftime.

Greedy, who scored 25 regular season goals in his first three years, added his second of the game in the 77th minute, heading home a perfect cross from Kwabe Boateng.

Ethan MacInnis picked up the shutout and Eric McGarry took the loss.

The win improved the Capers record to 1-2-1 on the year, while the Axemen dropped to 2-2-0 with the loss.

CBU will be home once again this weekend for one game when they battle the Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex on the CBU campus.

Acadia will return home host Dalhousie and UNB next weekend in Wolfville.
