Reds hot-streak continues

In Week 6 of AUS men's hockey action, the UNB Reds played to their 12th-straight win to remain undefeated, while the Saint Mary's Huskies earned a weekend sweep.

The league-leading Reds earned an 8-3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax Friday night. UNB goals came from eight different players, with Sean McGurn, Brady Gilmour, Justin Nolet, Isaac Nurse, Cody Morgan (PP), Austen Keating, Kale McCallum (PP) and Cole MacKay all recording tallies in the win. Alec Belanger, Dawson Stairs and Derek Gentile scored for Dalhousie in the loss. 

In a matchup of the top two teams in AUS men's hockey Saturday night, the Reds came out on top with a 5-3 win over the StFX X-Men. Brady Gilmour, Michael Petizian, Jason Willms (PP),, Benjamin Corbeil, and Isaac Nurse all recorded tallies in the win, while Zack Trott, Logan Chisholm and Matthew Struthers (PP) found the back of the net for the X-Men in the loss. UNB's Petizian was named the first star and player of the game, while STFX's Chisholm was the second star, and Reds defenseman McCormick was named third star.

The X-Men split their weekend games as StFX rookie Charlie Callaghan's overtime winner pushed the STFX X-Men to a 4-3 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Friday night. It was Callaghan's first goal with the X-Men, earning him player of the game honours. Matthew Struthers scored twice in the win, with teammates Matthew Struthers and Conner Bruggen-Cate adding a tally each. Jeremy Michel, Charles Edouard Drouin and Thomas Pelletier recorded goals for Moncton in regulation. 

The Saint Mary's Huskies picked up four points this weekend, first earning a 3-1 win over the UPEI Panthers on Wednesday night in Halifax. Declan McDonnell scored twice in the win, with Nathan Dunkley adding a powerplay tally for the home team. UPEI's lone goal in the loss came from Kaleb Pearson. 

Huskies forward Ben Allison scored the shootout winner as Saint Mary's defeated the Acadia Axemen 1-0 in a shootout on Saturday night at the Dauphinee Centre. The Huskies outshot the Axemen 41-23 on the night, with Matt Welsh making 23 saves for the shutout and was named Player of the Game, while Thomas Couture turned away 41 shots in an outstanding performance for the Axemen.

Despite their loss Wednesday night, the Panthers bounced back Friday, defeating the Acadia Axemen with a 4-0 win in Wolfville. Kaleb Pearson found the back of the net twice in the win, with teammates Yanic Crete and Noah Sedore adding tallies for the visitors. Jonah Capriotti made 28 saves for the Panthers, earning the shutout. 

The Tigers skated to a 7-4 win over the Aigles Bleus Saturday night with Shaun Miller earning player of the game honours for his goal and assist on the night.
