Huskies top Tigers in four-point matchup

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Brian Rouse's hot hand gave the Saint Mary's Huskies a boost Saturday afternoon in their 79-63 men's AUS basketball win.

The Mississauga, Ont. native led all scorers with 23 points and added five steals for the Huskies, who gain four points in the standings with the win.
Saint Mary's improves to 7-6 on the year (18 points) and sits in fifth place, two points behind Dal (7-6) and Cape Breton University (7-8) who are tied for third place, each with 20 points.
SMU opened up a fast 24-11 first quarter lead on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor compared to Dalhousie's 2-of-16.
The Tigers outscored SMU 18-13 in the second frame to trim the Huskies' lead to eight, 37-29 at half.
Saint Mary's was dominant in the third quarter, 19-10. They stretched their lead to 17 points after 30 minutes.
 
A torrid final 10 minutes produced a 28-23 frame for the Tigers, but the Huskies would come out on top, 79-63.
Jarred Reid (Aurora, Ont.) paced Dalhousie with 17 points and Cedric Sanogo (Montreal, Que.) added 13 points. Halifax's Steven Stammberger contributed a double-double for the Tigers with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Also scoring for the Huskies Saturday afternoon was Jeremy McAvoy (Dartmouth, N.S.) with 17 points. Marquis Clayton (Halifax, N.S.) and Osman Barrie (Ottawa, Ont) had 13 points each, while Achuil Lual (Ottawa, Ont.) had six points and hauled in 17 rebounds in the win.
Toronto's Ryan Augustine had three points for Saint Mary's. Teammates Aaron Fisher (Savannah, Georgia) and Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, Ont.) had two points each and Brent Martindale (Kingston, Ont.) pulled down a rebound for SMU.
Saint Mary's travels to StFX (4-9) Feb. 4 for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
