Sea-Hawks split weekend with a 21-point victory over Capers

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) - The Memorial men's basketball team claimed their first win of 2015 with a 83-62 victory over the Cape Breton Capers at the Field House on Monday afternoon.

It was the Capers that took an early lead in the game, out-scoring the Sea-Hawks 16-11 in the first quarter. Memorial was never far behind however, and going into the half, they were only one point behind the Capers who held onto a 33-32 lead.

The Sea-Hawks were solid from the free throw line in the third, making seven of 10 attempts compared to the Capers two of four, allowing them to pull ahead and finish the third up 56-47.

The fourth quarter saw Memorial out-score Cape Breton 27-15, solidifying their lead and taking the game by 21 points.

The Subway player of the game, Davion Parnsalu (Ajax, Ont.) had 22 points for the Sea-Hawks while Daniel Foo (Corner Brook, N.L.) provided 20 off the bench.

Meshack Lufile (Burlington, Ont.) led the Capers with 11 points and five rebounds, and teammate Seth Amoah (Montreal, Que.) provided 11 of his own.

The Sea-Hawks improve to 2-6 on the season while Cape Breton falls to 4-6 with the loss.

Memorial will be off to Charlottetown next weekend for games against the UPEI Panthers on Jan. 17 and 18.

The Capers play next when they host the Acadia Axemen for a four-point game on Jan. 17.
