(ST. JOHN'S, NFLD.) - The UPEI Panthers broke away in the second quarter on their way to an 88-62 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks in AUS men's basketball on Saturday at the Field House.

After a fairly even opening quarter, the Sea-Hawks started the second quarter with a three pointer from Jacob Ranton (Waterloo, Ont.) tying it 18-18, but a subsequent 25-6 run turned the momentum in favour of the visitors.

After the third the Panthers had a 27-point lead over Memorial. The Sea-Hawks outscored the Panthers by one point in the fourth but couldn't make a dent in UPEI's lead.

Tyler Scott (Halifax, N.S.) led the Panthers in double-figures with 25 points while Geoff Doane (St. Margaret's Bay, N.S.) added 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Ranton was tops for Memorial with 27 points in the loss. The Sea-Hawks struggled from the three-point distance, hitting on only four of 24 attempts.

Scott took the Subway AUS player of the game honours for the winners.
