No. 2-ranked Capers defeat V-Reds 86-70 to finish at 19-1

(SYDNEY, NS.) – The CIS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers closed out their season on a winning note Saturday by defeating the UNB Varsity Reds 86-70 in Sydney.

Senior guard and reigning AUS player of the year Jimmy Dorsey, playing in his final home game, paced the Capers with 27 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as CBU finished the regular season in first place with a 19-1 record.

Freshman Kayon Mayers added 22 points on nine-of-11 shooting for the home side while Sean McCormick chipped in with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Will McAfee had a game-high 32 points for the Varsity Reds and clinched the AUS scoring title in the process, finishing with a league-leading 21.0 points per game scoring average.

UNB`s Jordan Irvine and Dan Quiron added 10 points apiece in a losing cause.

CBU will now head into the Subway AUS men`s basketball championship tournament as the top seed and will take to the court in Saturday`s 6:00pm semifinal at the Halifax Metro Centre.
