PROFILE

Jacob LeBlanc is heading into his third year with the Mount Allison Mounties with high expectations and looking to build on his first playoff appearance with the Mounties.

As the 2013 season approaches he can feel the momentum building for a young team and says, "I always have a positive outlook for this team. With the momentum we picked up over the last year and have carried through the off season, I think we will be a serious contender for the cup this year."

LeBlanc was named the AUS rookie of the year in 2011 and after just two seasons has already been named an AUS all-star twice and was selected as a second team all-Canadian in 2012.

Jacob has also been a member of Team Canada at the 2012 IFAF under-19 World Championship and a member of Team World at the 2013 International Bowl in Austin, Texas..

With his individual accolades piling up he is quick to point to his teammates when it comes to being asked about individual goals.

"I just want to continue doing my best and grow stronger alongside the rest of the defense. We've got a great group that I came in with and it's been fun to see the progress of the team from when I first arrived," says LeBlanc.

After finishing his final year in high school at J.L. Ilsley in Halifax, N.S., LeBlanc decided to attend Mount Allison to join a great team experience.

"Besides the great reputation of the school and the small campus experience that it is known for, I chose Mount Allison largely for the atmosphere of the team. The team was there to have a great time and to play a mean game of football but they did so without any of the cockiness that often accompanies it," says LeBlanc.

Entering just his third season, LeBlanc already has a favourite moment.

"My favourite moment so far was my first CIS tackle against Saint Mary's in 2011. At that point I started to realize that I could play at this level and because of that I started getting a lot more enjoyment out of the game and training."

Mount Allison Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey on Jacob LeBlanc:

"Jacob has made an impact from the first day he set foot on our campus. He changes the game with his power and his non-stop motor. During his time as a Mountie it has been incredible to see the development from his first year until now. His transformation from just playing on instinct his first year to learning the position and becoming a student of the game has been fun to watch."

"Jacob has a lot of physical gifts but he is also an excellent teammate. His contributions to the character of the team and his work in the classroom have been an important part of building our foundation for future seasons."

Mount Allison Defensive Coordinator Scott Brady on Jacob LeBlanc:

"Jacob has an incredible passion when it comes to football. When the whistle blows you know he is going to give everything he has on every play for the full game. From his first year to his second I have seen his knowledge of the game catch up to his physical skills to become a complete player. His experience at the national level has helped with his football acumen and he has utilized that experience to grow as a more disciplined player."

"Jacob can beat you so many ways. He has great athleticism for someone his size and is able to get to the ball carrier from sideline to sideline. His ability to penetrate and disrupt opposing offenses makes everyone around him better."
