James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award nominee: Madeline Clarke, Saint Mary's women's volleyball

Saint Mary's athletics has named Huskies women's volleyball player Madeline Clarke as their nominee for the 2016 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award.

Clarke played in all 17 matches for the Huskies this season, finishing with 153.0 points. In her sophomore year, the left/right side hitter had 115 kills, with a 1.60 kills per set average and finished sixth in the conference in digs with 219.

In her freshman season with the Huskies last year, Clarke was named to the AUS all-rookie team.

With a GPA of 4.30, the biology major was named a 2014-15 CIS academic all-Canadian last season and earned her way onto the Dean's List. She is on pace to do both again this season.

Clarke was also the recipient of the 2014-15 SMUSA Larry Uteck Scholarship.

Along with her dedication on the court and in the classroom, Clarke volunteers her time within the community.

In the summer of 2015, Clarke volunteered with Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, monitoring the local wildlife park. This season, she also dedicated her time to assisting with various volleyball clinics and tournaments.

"Maddie shows incredible leadership and dedication at practice, games, the classroom, and community at large. Her dedication to her studies in the science program has been phenomenal."
