Cape Breton's Alliyah Rowe sets new AUS career scoring record

Rowe finishes 2023 regular season with 56 career goals scored

(MONCTON, N.B.) A six-goal performance from No. 12 forward Alliyah Rowe allowed the Cape Breton University Capers to defeat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 8-1 on Saturday in the final game of the AUS women's soccer regular season at the Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium on the Moncton campus.

Rowe set a new career mark for an AUS soccer player with her fourth goal (54th of her career) and bettered it with the other two. The previous record was 53 career goals scored which was held by former Capers standout Karolyne Blain. 

Liberty Yuke and Makenna Bowser were successful also for hitting the net for the visitors. Madeleine Belliveau scored her team's lone goal late in the game. Chloe Parsons had four shots on goal for the win in net and Krista Phillips was busy with 17, including nine saves in the loss. The Capers had five corner kicks and the Aigles Bleues had one. 

The visitors led 4-0 after the first half. Rowe's record-breaking goal came in the 56th minute of play.

The Capers finished the season in second place in the standings and the Aigles Bleues in 10th. Cape Breton will host the AUS championship from Oct. 26 to 29.

STFX, Acadia, Dalhousie, Memorial and Saint Mary's have also qualified for the championship.
