Reds earn 7-point week, while X-Women remain undefeated

In Week 4 of AUS women's soccer action, the UNB Reds recorded seven points to climb the standings, while the StFX X-Women earned their seventh straight victory to remain undefeated.

The Reds kicked off the week at home against the UPEI Panthers, in a game originally scheduled for last weekend. A late goal lifted the home team to victory as Jillian Curtis scored late in added time to give the Reds a 2-1 win. Aurora Hughes-Goyette added a tally in the win, earning Player of the Game honours, while Caitlyn McCloskey scored the lone goal for UPEI in the loss.

UNB then scored twice in each half to power a 4-1 home win against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues on Saturday. Goals came from UNB's Carolina Grzesniak and Kristin Hayward, while Zoe Brockbank found the back of the net for the Aigles Bleues. 

The Reds then visited the Panthers for their second meeting of the week, where the teams played to a 2-2 draw to pick up a point apiece. Heidi Lauwerijssen and Sophia Maillet recorded tallies for the Reds, while Wendy Dadzie and Sarah Eden found the back of the net for UPEI. In net, Lauren Kelly and Claudia Mazzie both made five saves in net for their respective teams.

The StFX X-Women edged the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in Halifax Saturday afternoon to keep their winning streak alive. Brynn Jurus and Abby Steen recorded tallies in the win, while Hannah Firstbrook earned the lone goal for Dalhousie in the loss.

The No. 7 ranked X-Women then topped the No. 8 ranked Acadia Axewomen 1-0 on Sunday. Lauren Reid scored the lone goal of the match in the 25th minute of the match, with an assist going to Amanda Smith. Milena Ramirez made six saves in the loss for Acadia, while Christina Gentile made six saves in the clean-sheet victory, her second of the season.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks recorded a weekend sweep on the road this week, earning six points to move into second in the standings. First, the Sea-Hawks blanked the Panthers 2-0 in Charlottetown Friday night. Zoe Rowe certainly left her mark, as the third-year forward scored both goals in the win. Teammate Claire Winsor made two stops on the night to earn the shutout. 

Sunday, Memorial edged the Mount Allison Mounties 2-1, with Zoe Rowe recording two tallies once again. Maeve Williams scored the lone goal for UPEI, while Claire Winsor made two saves once again for the victory.

The Cape Breton Capers extended their win streak to three, starting with a 3-0 shutout win over the Acadia Axewomen 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Alliyah Rowe scored the opening and eventual game-winning goal in the 14th minute of the match. She then assisted on the second goal by Lauren Rowe to give the Capers a 2-0 lead, then recorded her second goal of the game in the 57th minute. Her efforts in the match earned her Player of the Game Honours. Milena Ramirez made four saves in the loss for Acadia, while Ellie Lancaster made five saves for Cape Breton in the victory.

Sunday, the Capers blanked the Saint Mary's Huskies, with Alliyah Rowe recording all four goals for the visitors. She earned Player of the Game honours for her incredible efforts. Ellie Lancaster earned the shutout once again, making seven saves in the victory.

Thursday night, the Huskies ventured down Robie Street to take on their rivals, the Dalhousie Tigers at Wickwire Field, and the tight match ended in a 1-1 draw. Goals in the match came from Saint Mary's Erin Freeman and Dalhousie's Olivia Jack. 

Mount Allison hosted the Aigles Bleues Friday on Mounties Homecoming weekend, where both teams came away with a point after a 1-1 draw. Zoé Brockbank made it 1-0 Moncton in the 49th minute, but the Mounties responded in the 58th minute with a goal off a free-kick from Kathryn Perry as she slotted the ball into the top left corner.
