UNB top Memorial 2-1 in Sunday women's soccer action

(ST. JOHN'S, Nfld.) - Veteran midfielder, Kayla Painter scored two goals on Sunday to lead UNB to a 2-1 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks in AUS women's soccer action.

Emily Bailey, a highly touted rookie from Mount Pearl, Nfld. scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute of play, and her first as a Sea-Hawk. UNB wasted no time and Painter had the game tied by the 14th minute, where it remained for the first half.

In the second half with heavy winds for both teams, Painter was again involved in the scoring, assisted by midfielder Nicola Small. The second goal for the Varsity Reds was in the 57th minute of play. With the Sea-Hawks unable to tie it up again, the Varsity Reds took their second straight win of the weekend.

Painter was named the AUS Subway player of the game for the winners.

UNB will see action next when they play host to Cape Breton on Saturday, and Acadia, Sunday.

Memorial will be off next weekend but will travel to Nova Scotia for their annual three game road trip from Sept. 19-21 when they play Saint Mary's and Acadia.
