(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The Dalhousie Tigers held their own defensively this time around against the UPEI Panthers in regular time, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities to get the win. The Panthers came out on top with a shootout victory after a scoreless overtime period at the Civic Centre.
The first period ended scoreless with neither team able to find the back of the net. Despite getting six power play opportunities, the Tigers were out-shot 8-5 by the Panthers.
The Tigers were once again out-shot by the Panthers in the second period 12-8. Panthers' defender Maddison Clarke was able to get one past Jessica Severeyns at the 9:08 mark to take the lead.
In the third period the Tigers fought back to even the score at 11:30 with a goal from second-year forward, Marita Alfieri. This marker brought Alfieri to a total of six goals so far this season.
With neither team scoring in overtime, the game ended in a shootout. The Tigers sent out Alfieri twice in hopes that she could put another one away and lead the Tigers to a win but it was Clarke who finished the game for the Panthers with her second goal of the game.
The Panthers continue to sit in the last playoff berth position with only two points on the Mount Allison Mounties. The Tigers sit two points ahead of the Panthers in the AUS standings, in fifth place.
First-year Maddison Clarke was named Subway player of the game for the UPEI Panthers.
The Panthers are back in action Wednesday as they host the second-ranked Aigles Bleues. Tigers are back at the Civic Center next Friday to take on the Huskies at 7 p.m.
