(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) - The CIS No. 8-ranked StFX X-Women needed overtime to gain their 12th win of the season as they defeated the UPEI Panthers 1-0 Friday night.

Third-year forward Kara Power (New Glasgow, N.S.) notched the game winner and the only goal of the game 4:14 into the extra period. Veteran fifth-year defenceman Jenna Downey (Stratford, Ont.) assisted on the play.

Downey is second overall amongst AUS defencemen with 10 points on the season. Power's goal was her fifth of the season and 14th point as she is tied for third in AUS scoring.

The Panthers have been the only team to solve the X-Women this season as they handed them their only loss, a 2-1 affair back on Oct. 17 in the first regular season game of the season.

On Friday night, StFX outshot the Panthers 4-1 in overtime and 34-16 in the game, though they were unable to solve UPEI netminder Marie-Soleil Deschenes in regulation.

The X-Women had 14 shots to the Panthers five in the opening period.

Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.

Second-year X-Women netminder Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) had 16 saves as she picked up the shutout victory, her sixth win of the season.

The X-Women (12-1-0) are back in action Saturday as they travel to Moncton to take on the second place Aigles Bleues (9-2-1). Game time is 2 p.m.

UPEI (4-7-2) will host Saint Mary's (4-8-1) on Saturday, also at 2 p.m.
