Mounties top Panthers 3-0 in Sackville

(SACKVILLE, N.B.) - The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team earned a solid 3-0 victory over the UPEI Panthers Wednesday in Sackville. 

Second-year Mounties Keri Martin made 14 saves for her first career CIS shutout.

Last year' AUS finalists have had a slow start to the new AUS season but a solid win against the Panthers comes after signs of stronger play of late.

Fifth-year Mounties Captain Kristen Cooze opened the scoring for the Mount Allison when she found the back of the net on the power play late in the first period. 

The Mounties added to their lead in the second period, first with sophomore Jennifer Bell scoring six minutes into the second period to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead. 

The Mounties stretched their lead to 3-0 when Mackenzie Lalonde scored top shelf with six minutes to play in the second.

After being outshot 8-6 in the first period, the Mounties carried the play for the rest of the night, oushooting the Panthers 11-2 in the second periond and 10-4 in the third period. 

Martin was solid in goal when tested and the Mounties defence had their strongest outing of the young season.

The Mounties return to action on Sunday, Nov. 9 when they host the StFX X-Women at 2 p.m. at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
