Week 4 AUS Football Players of the Week: Burzuk, Royer and Maither

(HALIFAX, N.S.) In week 4 of AUS football action, Mount Allison's Brandt Burzuk and Graeme Maither, along with Bishop's Gabriel Royer, have been recognized for their outstanding play as the AUS football players of the week.

Mount Allison Mounties running back Brandt Burzuk is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Sept. 17, 2023.

A science student from Red Deer, Alta., Burzuk had 238 rushing yards on 29 carries and two rushing touchdowns in Friday night's 24-10 Mount Allison road win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax, N.S.

He was named Player of the Game for his efforts.

Bishop's Gaiters linebacker Gabriel Royer has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A third-year sports studies major from Lawrenceville, Que., Royer led the Gaiters' defence with 9.5 tackles (seven solo and five assisted) on Saturday in a convincing 40-9 win over the Acadia Axemen at home in Lennoxville, Que—including 2.5 tackles for loss.

The reigning AUS defensive player of the year, his stats also included an interception and a pass break up in the win.

Mount Allison Mounties kicker Graeme Maither is the AUS football special teams player of the week for the week ending Sept. 17, 2023.

A second-year commerce student from Hinchinbrooke, Que., Maither made good on two of three field goal attempts, both his point-after attempts and had two rouges for 10 total points in Mount Allison's 24-10 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties Friday in Halifax.

His stats also included nine punts for 369 yards in the win (41.0-yard average), including three downed inside the 20, as well as three kickoffs for 158 yards.
