Week 8 AUS Football Players of the Week: Wright, Lyte-Myers and King honoured

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Running back Dale Wright from the Acadia Axemen, along with defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers and returner Johnny King, both from the Saint Mary's Huskies, have been selected as the Week 8 AUS football players of the week for their respective performances this past weekend.

Offensive Player of the Week
Name: Dale Wright
University: Acadia University
Position: Running back
Hometown: Markham, Ont.

Academic program: BBA
Height and weight: 5'8", 198 lbs

Acadia Axemen running back Dale Wright is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 15, 2017.

A third-year business student in his second year of eligibility from Markham, Ont., Wright had 30 carries for 193 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Acadia's 35-17 Homecoming win over the StFX X-Men Saturday in Wolfville, N.S.

He is the current AUS rushing leader, averaging 124.7 yards per game. He also leads the conference in rushing touchdowns with six on the season.

Wright also had a reception for 10 yards in Saturday's win. He earned Subway Player of the Game honours for his role in the victory which secured the Axemen a place in the 2017 AUS postseason.

Saint Mary's Huskies defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.

A third-year commerce student from Toronto, Lyte-Myers had an interception in Saturday's 55-11 Homecoming win over the Bishop's Gaiters, which he returned 84 yards for a touchdown.

He also had a solo tackle in the win.

Height and weight: 5'6", 155 lbs

Johnny King of the Saint Mary's Huskies is the AUS football special teams player of the week for the week ending Oct. 15, 2017.

A commerce student from Greensboro, North Carolina, King was named Subway Player of the Game in the Huskies' 55-11 Homecoming win over Bishop's Saturday in Halifax, N.S.

Late in the first quarter, he returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to give Saint Mary's the lead, 14-10.

King then had a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

He had seven punt returns for 121 yards and two kickoff returns for 119 yards in the victory. With the win, the Huskies have secured their spot in the 2017 AUS postseason.
