Dickson rushes for 136 yards and two touchdowns as X-Men top Huskies 30-6

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The St. Francis Xavier X-Men defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 30-6 Saturday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Saint Mary's 2015 homecoming game.

Subway player of the game Ashton Dickson (Ottawa, Ont.) had 23 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Tivon Cook (Scarborough, Ont.) went 10 for 17 for 154 yards and a major, and Donald Tabor (Dartmouth, N.S.) had two receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown to power the X-Men offence.

Daniel Tshiamala (Kinshaha, Congo) had five tackles and Kay Okafor (Nigeria) had three tackles and a sack to lead StFX on defence.

The X-Men had 291 yards of total offence, compared to 255 for the Huskies.

Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Saint Mary's narrowly missed opening the scoring when Ideen Samadi (Edmonton, Alta.) missed a 29-yard field goal attempt.

The X-Men eventually scored the game's first points when Jonathon Heidenbrecht (Camrose, Alta.) booted a 31-yard field goal to give StFX a 3-0 lead.

The X-Men added to their lead when Heidenbrecht hit another field goal from 21 yards to make it 6-0. 

StFX kept up the offence when Dickson rushed into the house from one yard to widen the lead to 13-0.

Dickson converted again on a run from six yards out to make the score 20-0 at halftime. 

In the third, the X-Men continued to roll when Cook connected with Tabor from 25 yards out to make it 27-0. 

The Huskies got on the board when Samadi hit a 27-yard field goal to cut the lead to 27-3 after the third.

In the fourth, Samadi drilled another field goal, this time from 35 yards, to get it to 27-6. 

Then, Heidenbrechtwho also went three for three on point-after attempts, added further insurance with a 48-yard field goal to makes the game's final score 30-6.

Omer Abdallah (Ajax, Ont.) had 5.5 tackles and a sack, and Kanaar Bell (Oshawa, Ont.) had 4.5 tackles to anchor the Huskies' defence.

Trevor Erdman (Ardrossan, Alta.) went 20 for 42 for 168 yards, and Rick LeMoignan (Edmonton, Alta.) had five grabs for 63 yards to lead the Huskies' offence.

Both teams are back in action next Saturday at 2 p.m. The X-Men host the Acadia Axemen and the Huskies visit the Mount Allison Mounties.
