Cape Breton's Grace Hannaford and Memorial's Colin Connors named AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Grace Hannaford from the Cape Breton Capers women's soccer team and Colin Connors from the Memorial Sea-Hawks men's soccer team have been named the AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Grace Hannaford of the Cape Breton Capers women’s soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 3, 2023.

A second-year midfielder from Enfield, N.S. and the reigning AUS rookie of the year, Hannaford kicked off the AUS regular season by scoring six goals in two Capers wins.

In Cape Breton’s 3-2 home opener win against UNB, she was named Player of the Game after scoring two goals.

Sunday, she followed up with a hat trick in Cape Breton’s 7-1 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues.

Colin Connors of the Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 3, 2023.

A third-year striker from St. John’s, N.L. Connors scored the game-winning goal in the Sea-Hawks’ 1-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday to open the regular season.

Saturday, the Sea-Hawks went on to complete a weekend sweep of the Tigers with a 3-2 win. Connors player 76 minutes in the victory, finishing with two shots, including a shot on goal.
