STFX's Amanda Smith and Acadia's Anderson Peters named AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Amanda Smith from the STFX X-Women soccer team and Anderson Peters from the Acadia Axemen soccer team have been named the AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Amanda Smith of the St. Francis Xavier X-Women soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 10, 2023.

A senior forward from Ottawa, Ont. Smith scored four goals in two STFX wins this weekend, helping them to improve to 4-0 atop the AUS standings.

In Saturday’s 3-1 win over the defending AUS champion Cape Breton Capers, she was named Player of the Game as she scored the first goal of the match in the 47th minute and followed up with a penalty kick goal in the 51st minute.

In Sunday’s 6-0 win over Saint Mary’s, Smith scored STFX’s first and fourth goals of the match.

With seven total goals on the season, she currently leads the AUS in scoring and moved into eighth spot on the AUS career goal scoring list with 35. She also remains the STFX all-time career leading scorer.

Anderson Peters of the Acadia Axemen soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 10, 2023.

A third-year forward from Rothesay, N.B., Peters was named Player of the Game after scoring a hat trick in Acadia’s 4-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Wolfville, N.S.

Anderson opened the scoring and scored three consecutive goals in the first half. He currently leads the conference in goals with three on the season and in points, with four.
