Ridleigh Hansen of the Saint Mary’s University Huskies women’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 14, 2024.

Hansen, an Arts student from Red Deer, AB, started all three games in net for the Huskies last week, starting with a 4-3 come from behind victory over the STFX X-Women on Tuesday night. After allowing a goal to put the X-Women up 3-0 early in the second period, Hansen shut the door the rest of the way as her team fought back and scored four unanswered to claim the victory. Hansen finished the game with 32 saves.

On Saturday, Hansen picked up her second shutout of the season, blanking the home side St. Thomas Tommies on 29 saves.

Hansen got the call yet again on Sunday and did not disappoint. She made 25 saves as her Huskies finished their perfect week with a 2-1 win over the host UPEI Panthers.

The three wins puts SMU in third place in the league standings at 12-5-1-2 with games against Mount Allison and Dalhousie scheduled for this week.

Hansen is tied for the league lead in wins (10).

Kaleb Pearson of the UPEI Panthers men’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 14, 2024.

Pearson helped his team to a pair of road wins this past weekend, beating Dalhousie University 7-2 on Friday and then STFX 3-2 on Saturday. The four points garnered now puts the Panthers just two back of third place in the AUS standings with two tough contests against second place Moncton and first place UNB set for this week.

The third-year forward from St. Marys, ON finished the week with 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) and 13 shots on net.

Pearson leads the AUS in shots (95) and is tied for first in goals scored (17).
