Name: Cate Fitzgerald, Lindsey Burgess

Cate Fitzgerald and Lindsey Burgess of the Dalhousie women’s curling team are your Atlantic University Sport Female Co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2024.

The pair of curlers were named First Team All-Canadians after leading the Tigers to a bronze medal this past weekend at the 2024 Curling Canada U SPORTS Championships, hosted by the UNB Reds.

Fitzgerald, a first-year lead from Halifax, curled at 88% for the weekend. Burgess, a fifth-year third from Truro, curled at 81% over the course of the five-day event.

The pair helped Dalhousie to a 4-3 record in round robin play before beating the host Reds 9-2 on Sunday to secure the bronze medal.

Brady Gilmour of the UNB Reds men’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2024.

Gilmour, a fourth-year forward from Grafton, Ont., played a key role in his team’s U SPORTS University Cup victory this weekend in Toronto. The Master of Business Administration student recorded a combined seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in three games.

In their 4-0 quarterfinal victory over the Brock Badgers on Thursday, Gilmour picked up an assist. Two days later, Gilmour added four more assists, this time in their 7-0 semifinal win over the host TMU Bold.

On Sunday, Gilmour scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal while also picking up yet another assist as the Reds blanked the UQTR Patriotes 4-0 to win their second straight University Cup title.

Gilmour’s performance all weekend long earned him the tournament MVP award.
