(HALIFAX, N.S.) Alaina McMillan from the Saint Mary's Huksies women's basketball team and David Muenkat from the STFX X-Men basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Alaina McMillan of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 26, 2023.
A fourth-year guard from Brantford, Ont., McMillan was named Subway AUS Championship Most Valuable Player, in leading the Huskies to their first AUS Championship since 2015-16.
She averaged 19 points, including shooting 42% from three and 89% from the free-throw line, adding 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
In Saturday night's 67-60 semifinal win over the UPEI Panthers, McMillan led all scorers with 18 points, including 4/10 from three, and added five rebounds, three steals and an assist, and was named Subway Player of the Game.
In Sunday afternoon's 68-56 final over the Acadia Axewomen, McMillan again led all scorers with 20 points, including 4/9 from three and a perfect 6/6 from the free-throw line, and added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
In addition to championship MVP honours, she was also named a tournament all-star.
The Huskies will now represent the AUS at U SPORTS Nationals, being held March 9-12 in Sydney, Cape Breton.

David Muenkat of the STFX X-Men basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 26, 2023.
A third-year forward from Brampton, Ont., Muenkat was named Subway Championship MVP following STFX’s AUS championship banner win this past weekend at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, N.S.
He averaged a double-double, scoring 21 points and adding 14 rebounds in the X-Men’s 94-68 semi-final win over the Cape Breton Capers.
He followed up with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game, a decisive 104-54 win over UPEI, and was named Subway Player of the Game.
In addition to taking home championship MVP honours, Muenkat was also named a tournament all-star.
The X-Men will now host the U SPORTS Final 8 men’s basketball championship March 10-12 back at Scotiabank Centre.
