UPEI's Rigby and Saint Mary's Clayton named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Kiera Rigby of the UPEI Panthers women's basketball team and Marquis Clayton of the Saint Mary's Huskies men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: BSc

Kiera Rigby of the UPEI Panthers women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2017.

A fourth-year science student from Charlottetown, P.E.I., Rigby was an integral part of two wins at home this past weekend for the Panthers.

In their 69-65 win over the Acadia Axewomen Friday night, she scored a game-high 22 points and added an assist, a rebound and a block.

Saturday, the Panthers topped the U Sports No. 10-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies 59-57. Rigby scored a game-high 26 points for UPEI. She also had three rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist.

Hometown: Halifax, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Fifth
Academic program: BA

Marquis Clayton of the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2017.

A fifth-year arts student from Halifax, Clayton was named Subway Player of the Game Friday night in the Huskies’ 93-80 road win over UNB. He scored a game-high 31 points and also had two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Saturday, Saint Mary’s downed the UPEI Panthers 105-98 in Charlottetown. Clayton scored 26 points and added seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

He currently leads the Atlantic conference in points, averaging 20.9 per game.
