Saint Mary's Coward and UNB's Halley named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Rachelle Coward of the Saint Mary's Huskies women's basketball team and Philippe Halley of the UNB Varsity Reds men's hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Rachelle Coward of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 20, 2016.

A fifth-year criminology student from Dartmouth, N.S., Coward averaged 19.3 points per game in the 2016 ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS Women's Basketball Final 8 Championship this past weekend, where the Huskies captured CIS bronze.

In Saint Mary’s 53-52 quarterfinal win over Alberta, Coward posted 19 points, one rebound, one block and one steal.

In their 65-58 loss to Saskatchewan in the semifinals, she had 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.

The Huskies battled it out Sunday with McGill for the bronze medal. Coward contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one block in the 56-43 win.

Philippe Halley of the UNB Varsity Reds men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 20, 2016.

A third-year recreation and sport studies student from Quebec City, Que., Halley was named MVP of the CIS University Cup men’s hockey championship held this past weekend in Halifax, N.S.

In UNB’s quarter-final matchup Friday versus the Western Mustangs, Halley scored a hat trick, netting the Varsity Reds’ first, third and fifth goals en route to a 5-1 win. He was named UNB’s player of the game for his efforts.

In Saturday’s semifinal against the host Saint Mary’s Huskies, Halley posted a natural hat trick, notching the second, third and fourth UNB goals as they cruised to a 4-0 victory. He once again earned player of the game nods for his performance.

On championship Sunday, the Varsity Reds topped the StFX X-Men 3-1 to claim the 2016 national title. Halley had an assist on the game-winning goal as UNB claimed their sixth CIS championship banner.
