Saint Mary's Carvery and Dalhousie's Lawrence named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Angelina Carvery of the Saint Mary's Huskies women's basketball team and Kashrell Lawrence of the Dalhousie Tigers men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Angelina Carvery of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 8, 2016.

A fourth-year arts student from Halifax, N.S., Carvery was named MVP of the Subway AUS Women’s Basketball Championship for the second consecutive season this past weekend at Scotiabank Centre.

In Saturday afternoon’s semifinal versus the UNB Varsity Reds, Carvery had 10 points, four steals and three rebounds as the Huskies claimed a 62-36 victory to advance to Sunday’s final.

On Sunday against the Cape Breton Capers, Carvery posted a team-high 15 points and added a rebound and an assist. Saint Mary’s earned a 63-49 victory and their fourth consecutive AUS women’s basketball championship title.

Carvery was named to the championship all-star team in addition to earning MVP nods.

Kashrell Lawrence of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 6, 2016.

A fourth-year commerce student from Brampton, Ont., Lawrence was named MVP of the Subway AUS Men’s Basketball Championship for the second consecutive year this past weekend at Scotiabank Centre.

In Saturday night’s semifinal, Lawrence had a game-high 31 points in the Tigers’ 75-74 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies. He added six rebounds and two steals in the win and was named the Subway player of the game.

On Sunday, the Tigers earned their second consecutive AUS men’s basketball title with an 87-85 win over the UPEI Panthers. Lawrence had 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists in the win. He was named to the championship all-star team in addition to receiving championship MVP honours.

At Thursday evening’s awards banquet prior to the championship, he was named an AUS second team all-star for his performance this regular season.
