Cape Breton's Keough and Saint Mary's Tipoff named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Alison Keough of the Cape Breton Capers women's basketball team and Matt Tipoff of the Saint Mary's Huskies men's hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Alison Keough of the Cape Breton Capers women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 31, 2016.

A third-year science student from Marion Bridge, N.S., Keough led the Capers to three victories in three home games this past week.

In Tuesday’s 69-59 win over the StFX X-Women, the Cape Breton forward posted a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. She also added three assists and a steal in the victory.

Keough then had 14 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist as the Capers topped the UPEI Panthers 94-52 Saturday evening.

Cape Breton downed UPEI again on Sunday, winning the matchup 63-50. The Capers were once again led by Keough who managed another double-double with a game-high 21 points and 17 rebounds.

Year of eligibility: Fifth
Academic program: MBA

Matt Tipoff of the Saint Mary Huskies men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 31, 2016.

In his fifth-year of eligibility, he is currently completing an MBA at Saint Mary’s University. The 6-foot-0 forward posted six points in three wins this past week for the Huskies.

He had a goal and two assists in Wednesday’s hard-fought 5-4 win over the crosstown rival Dalhousie Tigers.

Friday at the Varsity Showdown held at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Tipoff scored two goals against the CIS No. 3-ranked Acadia Axemen as the Huskies went on to win 4-3.

Tipoff notched his fourth goal and sixth point of the week Sunday as the Huskies clinched their third win, topping the CIS No. 7-ranked StFX X-Men 4-2 in Antigonish, N.S.
