Acadia's Berry and UNB's Masters named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Allie Berry of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team and Javon Masters of the UNB Varsity Reds men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Allie Berry of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 29, 2015.

A third-year community development student from Yarmouth, N.S., Berry was named the Subway player of the game in Acadia’s 88-86 win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday night in Wolfville, N.S. She posted a double-double, scoring a team-high 17 points and added a game-high 14 rebounds in the win.

In Acadia’s 66-48 victory Sunday over the Panthers, Berry added another eight points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal to her weekend total.

The Axewomen are undefeated so far this season (7-0) and in sole possession of first place in the AUS standings heading into the holiday break.

Javon Masters of the UNB Varsity Reds men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 29, 2015.

The third-year guard from Kitchener, Ont. posted 59 points in two games this past weekend versus the Saint Mary’s Huskies. In Friday night’s 102-97 overtime win, Masters scored 28 points and had four rebounds. He also sunk four free throws and became the AUS all-time leader in career free throws made.

In Saturday’s 86-80 loss to Saint Mary’s, Masters scored 31 points, had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Former Acadia standout and AUS MVP Owen Klassen previously held the record for career free throws made with 411 in five seasons with the Axemen.

In just his third season, reigning AUS MVP Javon Masters is now the active leader in this category with 422 career free throws made heading into the holiday break.
