StFX's Taylor and Donald named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Emma Taylor of the St. Francis Xavier X-Women's rugby team and Scott Donald of the StFX X-Men's cross country team have been named the Subway AUS athletes of the week for their respective performances for this past week.

Emma Taylor of the St. Francis Xavier University women’s rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 26, 2014.

A fifth-year business student from Scotsburn, N.S., Taylor was named most valuable player of the 2014 Subway AUS women’s rugby championship this past weekend in Wolfville, N.S.

The veteran lock scored two tries in the championship game for the CIS No. 2-ranked StFX X-Women, leading them to a 19-12 overtime victory over the host Acadia Axewomen and their 17th consecutive AUS championship banner. She was named Subway player of the game for her efforts in the final.

Leading into championship weekend, Taylor earned AUS most valuable player honours at the championship banquet and was named to the AUS all-star team for the third consecutive season. In the regular season, she led the Atlantic conference in tries scored with 10, and was second overall in scoring with 60 points.

Scott Donald of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 26, 2014.

A third-year human kinetics student from Ottawa, Ont., Donald finished first overall in the 2014 Subway AUS men’s cross country championship 10km run.

His time of 32:24.80 earned him an individual gold medal, AUS cross country male athlete of the year honours and a place on the AUS all-star team.

Donald and his X-Men teammates were also the gold medal winning team. StFX took home the AUS men’s cross country championship banner for the fourth consecutive year.
