Moncton's Forget and Saint Mary's Ezenibe named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Gabrielle Forget of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues women's hockey team and Harry Ezenibe of the Saint Mary's Huskies men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for the period ending March 2, 2014.

Gabrielle Forget of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 2, 2014.

A first-year human kinetics student from Joliette, Que., Forget’s goaltending this past week throughout the Subway AUS women’s hockey championship best 2-of-3 semifinal series helped Moncton earn their place in the final.

Forget allowed just six goals over the course of the series versus the second-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies. The rookie goaltender faced 75 shots and made 69 saves as Moncton topped Saint Mary’s 3-1 in Game 2 on Friday and 6-2 in Game 3 on Saturday.

Her performance was integral to both Aigles Bleues wins and their subsequent place in the AUS final series this week versus the Mount Allison Mounties.

Harry Ezenibe of the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 2, 2014.

A fifth-year sociology and criminology student from Igbo-Ukwu, Nigeria, Ezenibe was named most valuable player of the Subway AUS Men’s Basketball Championship played this past weekend at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Also the recipient of this year’s AUS student-athlete community service award, Ezenibe posted 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the Huskies’ 94-78 semifinal win Saturday versus the UPEI Panthers. He took home Subway Player of the Game honours for his efforts.

On championship Sunday versus the StFX X-Men, he contributed another 14 points and 10 rebounds in the 81-72 Saint Mary’s victory.

Ezenibe was also named to the championship all-star team Sunday following the Saint Mary’s championship win.
