(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) - For the 12th year in a row, The Landmark East Walkathon has raised funds for one of Wolfville's most important schools. Landmark East is a co-ed international school for students with learning differences in grades 3 through 12. An internationally recognized learning institution, Landmark provides quality academic programs with personal growth experiences for students.
This annual event offers a unique opportunity to unite students and their families, alumni, teachers, staff, administration, board members, trustees and many long-time, loyal friends in the community. Walkathon 2014 was a tremendous group effort, raising over $19,500 .
This year and in past years, the Axemen hockey program has sent team members to join in this great event. This past week Brandon Glover and Scott Trask, both second-year student-atheltes, were on site at Landmark East for the Walkathon. The players participated in the Walkathon recognition awards to celebrate some outstanding student leaders.
Rose Spicer, director of development at Landmark East commented on the hockey team's past and current involvement. "It’s a long standing tradition to have a guest appearance from the Acadia Axemen team at the Walkathon," she said. "Landmark East students are huge fans and make a real show of their appreciation when the guests are introduced."
"The players always come bearing gifts (signed hockey jerseys and a hockey stick) and these are presented to our outstanding student fundraisers," continued Spicer. "These are students who have spent many hours canvassing and have gone above and beyond as volunteers. It is a real honour for them to be recognized for their efforts by an Axeman hockey player."
The Walkathon is an important source of funding for Landmark East Student Bursaries. Over the past decade, the school’s signature fall event has raised in excess of $420,000.
