Tigers finish women's volleyball season with 19-1 record

For the fifth season in a row, the Dalhousie Tigers finished first in the AUS women's volleyball standings, ending the season with an incredible 19-1 record.

Last weekend, the Acadia Axewomen ended the Tigers' perfect season with a 3-0 victory, but the Tigers bounced back to revenge the loss, defeating the Axewomen 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Dalhousie won with scores of 25-23, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-19. Julie Moore had a match-high 16 kills for the Tigers, earning Subway Player of the Game honours. She also had 16 digs and two aces for 18.0 total points. Courtney Baker had 38 assists, nine digs and five service aces in the win. Acadia's Becky Dorsey earned player of the game honours for the Axewomen, collecting 16 digs in the loss. Lucy Glen-Carter had a team-high 13 kill and added five digs and two aces.

The Axewomen hit the court another two times this week, splitting their other games. They kicked things off with a 3-0 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Monday night, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-12. Peyton DeWolfe posted eight kills with a hitting efficiency of 0.316, while teammate Taylor Collombin added eight more kills. DeWolfe was named the Subway Player of the Game for her performance. Cassidy Martin had a team high 10 digs and was named as Moncton's Player of the Game.

Acadia then visited the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night, falling 3-0 to the home team, with set scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-9. The win allowed the Huskies to finish with a 13-7 record and clinch second place in the standings over the Axewomen. Sophomore Olivia Bell and fifth-year Jamie Rourke each recorded eight kills in the win while Lucy Glen-Carter recorded eight kills and 11 digs for the Axewomen.

The UNB Reds finished their season with a 3-0 win over the Aigles Bleues, allowing them to finish in fourth with a 12-8 record. UNB won with scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-20. Adora Rooyakkers, a fourth-year hitter, led the Reds with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Paige Lehto registered 25 assists. Eliza Durart led Moncton with seven kills and 13 digs while teammate Pascale Doiron added a dozen digs in the final match of her career.

Although the Axewomen and Reds both finished with identical 12-8 records, Acadia finshes ahead of UNB. They split the season series (2-2) and split the head-to-head sets (6-6), however Acadia had the better ratio of won/lost sets in all league matches (Acadia: 40/30 = 1.333, UNB: 38/29 = 1.310).

With the season now complete, the Tigers will host UNB and the Huskies will host the Axewomen in two best two-of-three series on Thursday, February 20, Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 (if needed).
