The Acadia Axewomen extend their win streak to four after handing the USports No. 2 ranked Dalhousie Tigers their first loss of the season, snapping their 18-game win streak.
The Axewomen played to victories of 25-20, 25-22 and 27-25 over the Tigers Sunday afternoon. Lucy Glen-Carter led Acadia with 12 kills and nine digs on the afternoon, while Victoria Haworth led Dalhousie with eight kills.
The Tigers split their weekend games however, playing to a 3-0 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night, winning by margins of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21. For the Tigers, Julie Moore finished with 14 kills to lead the game, while Courtney Baker dished out 31 assists to help spread the attack. Bethany Smith led the Huskies attack with 7 kills and 2 blocks, while Renee Cleveland picked up 17 digs in a great performance.
The Huskies bounced back Saturday afternoon as senior Anna Watt tallied 11 kills and five digs, hitting at a .375 clip as Saint Mary's defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in straight sets. The Huskies won with scored of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21.
The UNB Reds earned a weekend sweep over the Memorial Sea-Hawks this weekend, kicking things off with a 3-1 win Friday night. UNB won with scores of 25-23, 25-21, 31-33, and 25-15. Paige Lehto had 44 assists for UNB and was named the Subway Player of the Match. Memorial got a fantastic performance from Katie Wagar, who finished with 32 digs and seemed to be all over the court all match.
The Reds then scored a straight-sets win over the Sea-Hawks on Saturday, the Reds second straight win. The Reds won with scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-19. Once again, UNB was led by Victoria Eadle (Gallagher Ridge, NB), who registered a match-high 15 kills, on an extremely efficient .591 kill percentage. Memorial was led by Catherine Smith, who registered multiple highlight reel kills, while also scoring two solo blocks in the second set.
UNB then completed the sweep Sunday afternoon, beating the host Sea-Hawks 3-1. The Reds won with scores of 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, and 25-21. Adora Rooyakkers was a standout for the Reds, recording 10 kills and 19 digs. Lehto registered another dominant performance, dishing out 33 assists, while also registering two kills. Alyssa Warford led the Sea-Hawks in kills with 10, while also providing eight digs.
