(MONCTON, N.B.) – The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues won their second match in as many days by downing the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks by a score of 3-0 in an AUS women's volleyball game played Sunday morning at the Ceps Louis-J.-Robichaud, on the Moncton campus.
The second place Blue and Gold won each set by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 27-25. They improved to 8-5 on the season and clinched a playoff spot with the win.
Crissy Roy finished the match with eight kills and three digs to be named the Subway player of the game. Joline Richard recorded a game-high 10 kills and added 10 digs, while Judith Desjardins was credited with a game-high 21 assists.
Memorial was led by Lauren Miller who had a team-leading seven kills and Jill Snow, who had 16 digs in the loss. Chantel Jones added a game-high six solo blocks for the Sea-Hawks.
Moncton also defeated the Sea-Hawks Saturday evening by a 3-1 margin with set scores of 17-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-14.
"These are two big victories for us, but we are still in progression," said Moncton head coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. "We need to be more alert on the court and have a killer instinct. The girls are working hard and Véronique Carroll was able to play a bit today. We will be in shape for the AUS championship and we will be competitive. We are playing better every game and we are comfortable as a team."
Véronique Carroll is recovering from a knee injury and has not played since last November.
"She played with a brace on her knee on Sunday and that was positive," added Boudreau-Carroll. "We are going to get ready for two tough weekend games this week. This team has never fallen apart and rolled over."
Player of the game Crissy Roy said the game was interesting.
"We did have a difficult time ending the third set and we'll have to work on that before our two big weekend games," added Roy. "The end of the season is fast approaching and we are confident in our means. We are working on our technique and our cardio to be ready. We are happy to be in second place and we play well as a team."
The Aigles Bleues will next host the third place Saint Mary's Huskies Friday at 7 p.m. followed by the first place Dalhousie Tigers Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Ceps Louis-J.-Robichaud.

Victoire de 3 à 0 des Aigles Bleues au volleyball
(MONCTON, N.B.) - Les Aigles Bleues de l'Université de Moncton (8-5=16pts, 2e position) ont remporté un deuxième match en autant de jours en blanchissant les Sea-Hawks de Memorial University (3-9=6pts, 6e position) par la marque de 3 à 0 dimanche lors d'une partie de volleyball féminin de Sport universitaire de l'Atlantique disputée au gymnase du Ceps Louis-J.-Robichaud.
Les Sea-Hawks ont bien bataillé au troisième set, mais à la fin, la persistance des Aigles Bleues a eu le meilleur. Le Bleu et Or a gagné 25 à 18, 25 à 23 et 27 à 25. Crissy Roy a été nommée joueuse du match. Moncton avait gagné 3 à 1, samedi, contre la même équipe. En attaque, Joline Richard a eu 10 as et Stéphanie Lagacé, sept. Richard a eu 10 digs et Lagacé, sept.
«Ce sont deux bonnes victoires, mais nous sommes encore en progression, a dit l'entraîneure des Aigles Bleues, Monette Boudreau-Carroll. Il faut être plus alerte et avoir un esprit plus agressif. Les filles travaillent fort et Véronique Carroll a pu jouer un peu aujourd'hui. Nous serons en forme pour le championnat de SUA et pour faire compétition aux autres équipes. Nous jouons de mieux en mieux et nous sommes plus confortables comme équipe.»
Véronique Carroll est blessée au genou et elle n'a pas joué depuis la fin novembre. «Le fait qu'elle a pu jouer un peu dimanche avec un appareil orthopédique sur son genou est positif. Nous allons nous préparer pour la semaine prochaine avec deux grosses parties. Cette équipe n'a jamais tombé sur le dos et roulé,» a ajouté Boudreau-Carroll.
La joueuse du match, Crissy Roy, a souligné que la partie a été intéressante, «mais nous avons eu de la difficulté à la finir. Il faudra pratiquer pour résoudre cela en vue des deux grosses parties de la fin de semaine. La fin de la saison approche et nous sommes confiantes. Nous travaillons sur la technique et le cardio pour être prêtes. Nous sommes heureuses d'être en deuxième position au classement et nous jouons bien comme équipe», a ajouté Crissy Roy.
Les Aigles Bleues accueillent les Huskies de Saint Mary's University (6-6=12pts, 3e position) vendredi soir à 19 h et les Tigers de Dalhousie University (11-2=22pts, 1re position) samedi à 14 h au gymnase du Ceps Louis-J.-Robichaud.
