(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) Laura Seamone’s (New Germany, N.S.) overtime goal in the 105th minute was the game-winner as the STFX X-Women knocked off the feisty Saint Mary’s Huskies 6-4 OT in quarterfinal play to move on to the semifinals

A back-and-forth battle for 90 minutes slowed down in favour of the X-Women in the overtime periods. Seamone scored the first of two STFX goals in overtime. Teammate Brynn Jurus (Ancaster, Ont.) scored the second overtime goal early in the second overtime period to guarantee the win.

The X-Women scored three minutes into the opening half on a goal by Hanna Yantha (Cambridge, Ont.). The Huskies replied 12 minutes later when Virginia Boone (Halifax, N.S) tied the game at one.

Amanda Smith (Ottawa, Ont.), who was named the AUS Subway Player of the Game, scored her first of two goals against the Huskies in the 33rd minute to regain a 2-1 lead.

STFX scored three consecutive goals including Smith’s goal in the 33rd minute to take a 4-1 lead in the 55th minute.

Aidan Miller (Chilliwack, B.C.) scored in the opening three minutes of the second half and Smith added their second goal of the game in the 55th minute to give the X-Women a 4-1 lead.

Allie Martin (Halifax, N.S.) scored her first of two goals in the 58th minute followed by her second goal at the 72nd mark to narrow STFX’s lead to 4-3.

Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, B.C.), who was named the Huskies’ Player of the Game, scored the tying goal in the 82nd minute to force the game into overtime.

Seamone and Jurus’ goals gave the X-Women the overtime win.

“It was a crazy game. We didn’t expect it to go so back and forth, but it was awesome to get the win. It was great to see everyone get some goals. It was an entertaining quarterfinals for sure,” said Amanda Smith following the game.

In 120 minutes, STFX’s Jordyn Pratt (Calgary, Alta.) made 8 saves off of 12 shots on goal, while on the other end, Keeper Grace Morrison (Halifax, N.S.) posted seven saves on 13 shots.

The X-Women will move on to the semifinals to face Cape Breton tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Both teams picked up a win in two regular season game meetings between the Capers and X-Women.
