(SYDNEY, N.S.) The No. 5 seed Memorial Sea-Hawks faced off against the defending champion Cape Breton Capers in the second women's semifinal of the Subway AUS Soccer Championships, presented by Keep It Social.

After upsetting the No. 3 seed X-Women in Thursday's quarterfinal, the Sea-Hawks came out firing on all cylinders. Memorial got several shots off on Capers keeper Rachel Yerxa (Mississauga, Ont.), but she stood strong in net for the Capers, keeping the game scoreless.

Memorial's defence held strong as well and the Capers failed to get a shot on net until the 32nd minute.

Late in the first half, MacKenna King used her great placement and beautiful footwork to fire a bullet of a shot off a rebound and put the Capers on the board 1-0. They took the one-point lead into halftime.

Cape Breton came out firing in the second half, getting multiple shots off on Sea-Hawks keeper and AUS first team all-star Sydney Walsh (St. John's, N.L.). Walsh held strong for the Sea-Hawks, making several impressive saves.

In the 68th minute, Amelia Carlini (Ottawa, Ont.) used a great handle and a quick one-touch shot to squeak it past Walsh and into the back of the net and put the Capers up 2-0.

It would prove to be the final shot of the game and the host Capers secured their ticket to Sunday.

MacKenna King was named Subway Player of the Game in the win. Walsh earned player of the game nods for the Sea-Hawks in the loss.

Cape Breton now advances to Sunday's championship final where they will face the top-seeded Acadia Axewomen. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
