Huskies edge Tommies in OT

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - In a game that went to overtime, Sarah Douglas (Whitby, Ont.) scored the winning goal at 7:26 of the extra period as the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 3-2 at Alumni Arena Saturday night.

Douglas' clutch marker earned her Subway player of the game honours.

Nicole Blanche (Dunville, N.L.) opened the scoring when she tallied at 2:09 of the first period to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Saint Mary's extended the lead when Caitlyn Manning (Cambridge, Ont.) scored on the power play at 15:16 to make the score 2-0 after the first period. 

In the second period, St. Thomas cut into the lead when Andrea Fischer (Bern, Switzerland) scored at 4:54 to make 2-1.

Nearing the end of the period, the Tommies tied the game when Cassidy McTaggart (Edmonton, Alta.) notched a power play marker at 19:27 to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes. 

There was no scoring in the third period.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 35-24 in the contest. Justine MacIntosh (East St. Paul, Man.) made 22 saves to get the win in goal for Saint Mary's. Abby Clarke (Springdale, N.L.) stopped 32 shots for St. Thomas.

The Huskies' are in action next Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they host the UPEI Panthers at Alumni Arena. The Tommies travel to Antigonish to meet the X-Women Sunday.
