Forget lifts the Aigles Bleues to victory over the Mounties

(MONCTON, N.B.) - Rookie goaltender Gabrielle Forget earned her fourth shutout to lift the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues to a 2-0 victory over the Mount Allison University Mounties in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game played Saturday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The win enabled the Aigles to climb to third spot in the standings, one point over the Tommies that have a game in hand (which will be played Sunday).

Amélie Dion (from Manon Lamarre) half way through the first period and Kaitlyn Gallaway (from Jodie Dupéré), with an empty netter at the end of the third, were the Aigles Bleues (13-9-1) scorers. Forget blocked 23 shots for the win compared to 30 for Keri Martin of the Mounties (10-11-0).

"I am very happy with the win," Forget said after the game. "We really needed this win because we still have a chance for third spot. I was bit lucky, but it was a team victory. This is good for the confidence and it should continue."

"We were able to bombard their goaltender," head coach Denis Ross said. "She made a number of key saves. We did not panic even if we could not score. In the third, we did gave difficulty in our zone and we were able to address the situation on the bench. We won the one-on-one battles. We want to beat the Huskies to finish the season on a high note."

Official Paulette Cormier was honoured at the game. After a 20-year career as an on ice official, Saturday marked her final AUS game as a linesman.

Aigles senior players Marika Lacroix and Manon Lamarre were also presented with their jerseys for playing four years with the Aigles Bleues.

The regular season will end next Saturday in Halifax for the Aigles Bleues as they visit the Saint Mary's Huskies.

The Mounties will host the UPEI Panthers Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in their second last regular season game.
