(HALIFAX, N.S.) - The St. Thomas Tommies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 in women's hockey action Friday night in Halifax.

Right off the tip of the faceoff, the Tommies took control of the puck. At 7:44 of the first period, Tommies' forward Kenya Marcelline scored the first goal of the game. Kelty Apperson and Teah Anderson had the assists.

Marcelline then struck again 11:57 into the first, with helpers from Eliza Snider & Myfanwy Thomson, on the power-play.

St. Thomas ended the first period with a two-goal lead.

The Tigers got off to a better start in the first few plays of the second period. Dominating in the Tommies' end, Tigers forward Sarah Robichaud put Dalhousie on the board with an assist from Fielding Montgomery.

The Tigers took control of the puck early in the third, keeping the pick in the Tommies' end.

St. Thomas was successful in a crucial penalty kill in the third. A Dalhousie penalty in the final three minutes of the game would force the Tigers to play most of the end of the matchup shorthanded.

Unable to tie things up, the Tigers ultimately fell 2-1 to the visiting Tommies.

The Tigers next take to the ice Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. when they host the Moncton Aigles Bleues.

St. Thomas plays again today, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. when they visit the Saint Mary's Huskies for their second of two Halifax games this weekend.
