Mounties top Panthers 4-1 in Charlottetown

(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) - The Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team defeated the UPEI Panthers 4-1 on Wednesday evening in Charlottetown.
The win moves the Mounties into fifth place in the AUS standings and is the second time in three games between the two teams that the Mounties have won.

Samantha Bujold scored unassisted at 10:55 of the first period to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Mounties then had one of their best periods of the season in the second period out-shooting the Panthers 15-9 and out-scoring them 3-0.

Courtney King and Megan Cameron had power-play goals while Amanda Volcko had her first of the season.

Volcko also assisted on the King and Cameron goals while Emily van Diepen had two assists with King and Kelly Matarazzo collecting single assists.

Goaltender Kate O'Brien was denied her third shutout of the season when UPEI's Emma Martin scored with just under two minutes left in the game. Assists came from Amanda Volcko and Courtney King.

The Mounties return to action the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Tantramar Civic Centre when they host Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. The Mounties will then play the Moncton Aigles Bleues at the Civic Centre on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7:15 p.m. in a game rescheduled from Jan. 22.

The Panthers next take to the ice Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the StFX X-Women in Antigonish.
