Aigles Bleues top Tommies for 5th consecutive win

(MONCTON, N.B.) - Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (9-8-1) broke a 1-1 tie in the second period with two goals by Karine Roy to defeat St. Thomas University Tommies (7-7-4) 4-1 Saturday in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game played in Fredericton.

Moncton won its fifth game in a row since the Christmas break and went from seventh and last place to third in the standings.

Marie-Pier Arsenault, in the first period, Karine Roy, the game's first star, with her two in the second and Marika Lacroix, in the third, were the Aigles markswomen.

Katie Brewster had the lone Tommies marker in the first.

Émilie Bouchard had 20 shots on goal for the winners while Kristin Wolfe, faced 31. Roy had a goal on the power-play.

"We did have some difficulty getting going in the first period, but we came out strong in the second and we did better in the third," said Moncton dead coach Denis Ross. "Émilie Bouchard played well in goal and we fought hard on the ice."

Next, the Aigles visit the Mount Allison University Mounties (8-8-0), Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Sackville. Both teams have won their last five games.

The Tommies next take to the ice Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. when they host the StFX X-Women.
