Collins, Weeks set AUS records on Day 1 of Kemp Fry Invitational

Dalhousie holds men's and women's lead after Friday

(Halifax, NS) – The Dalhousie Tigers lead in both the men's and women's rankings through the end of Day 1 of the Kemp-Fry Invitational at Dalplex.  

The evening opened with timed finals for the long-distance races. Dalhousie's Regan Crowell, Ella Dobson, and Abbey Nichols swept the women's 800m free, with Crowell lowering her personal best time and setting a new Dalhousie record with a time of 8:40.78.  

The men's 1500m was up next with the Tigers brothers Logan Sparkes and Morgan Sparkes going 1-2 and Morgan joining his brother in qualifying for U SPORTS. Memorial's Feliz Shepard joined the brothers on the podium in third.  

The rest of the individual events of the day were preliminary races with the finals for the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke all going Saturday night starting at 5pm AT.  

Acadia's Ella Collins set a new AUS record in the preliminary race of the 50m breaststroke with a time of 31.83 seconds. In the 50m butterfly prelims, Memorial's Chris Weeks also set a new AUS record with a time of 23.69 seconds.  

The evening wrapped up with the 4x200m relays. In the women's race the Tigers touched in first followed by Acadia and UNB. On the men's side it was the Tigers in first place followed by Acadia and Memorial. The Tigers team of Noah Mascoll-Gomes, Noah Thomas, Cole Mitchell and Logan Sparkes touched the wall with a time of 7:29.72, under the U SPORTS qualifying time.  

The Tigers women's and men's teams lead the meet after the end of the short first day of swimming.
